DALLAS (KRLD) - A recycling company has been ordered to clean up a site in South Dallas that had become known as "Shingle Mountain." Blue Star Recycling operates the site at 9700 S Central Expressway, near I-45 and I-20.

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality said Blue Star Recycling estimated there were 47,150 tons of shingles on the land. People who live nearby say shingles were blowing onto their land, and the Dallas Office of Environmental Quality found an "oily sheen" on a nearby creek.

Blue Star Recycling grounds shingles into asphalt. The company says the land was zoned for that use.

A judge issued a temporary restraining order last month to stop Blue Star Recycling from bringing more shingles to the site. The same judge has now ordered the company to clean the site within 90 days.

Blue Star Recycling says it will stop grinding shingles on the land but has not said what the land might be used for in the future.
