FORT WORTH (KRLD) - Anti-gay pastor Donnie Romero has resigned from Stedfast Baptist Church in Fort Worth. The fundamentalist preacher left because of allegations he has been with prostitutes, has been gambling and using marijuana.
Romero has been preaching an anti-gay message since arriving at the church more than four years ago. After the 2016 gay nightclub mass shooting in Florida, Romero praised the gunman and called the victims the scum of the earth.
The Southern Poverty Law Center has designated the church as a hate group.
Houston pastor Jonathan Shelley will take over for Romero. Shelley is also a fundamentalist who has referred to gays as 'filthy' and 'wicked.'
