DALLAS (KRLD 1080)- The Dallas Catholic Diocese today released its long-awaited list of priests who, the church says, have been credibly accused of sexual abuse. 31 priests, dating back to 1950, are on the list. 17 have died, six have been kicked out of the church, a number have been suspended.
One, Rudy Kos, is in jail. Dallas Bishop Edward Burns says the church is promising to forward names of those who may have watched and said nothing to police along with any other allegations that may crop up.
"With the further investigation that goes on surrounding their cases, we would yield to law enforcement agencies." said Burns.
Burns acknowledged that some victims will never get justice because the priests died. Burns was ellusive when asked whether those who knew about the abuse, but did not report it, will be named.
Abuse victim Paul Peterson says the list should have been released long ago. Peterson is a member of the group SNAP or Survivors Network of Those Abused by Priests. He is not confident the Church has named all it knows.
"It is cathartic to victims and survivors to have those names released." he said. "But I'm suspicious whether or not the list is complete and so the cloud, I suspect, will continue to hang."
He says anyone whowas abuses, no matter how long ago it may have happened, should call Dallas police. (David Clark; DPD- Child Exploitation Unit (214) 671-4301 or (214) 347-1577 or email at david.clark@dpd.dallascityhall.com)
