DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - Along with fighting fires and saving lives, members of the Dallas Hispanic Firefighter’s Association are helping teachers and students at George Peabody Elementary School.

The Dallas Hispanic Firefighter’s Association, or DFHA, found out from a teacher that Peabody Elementary school had lost its funding for extracurricular activities.

The teacher shared that they usually give bikes to all of the students who achieve perfect attendance and this year, without funding, they would not be able to do that.

Being active members of the community, DFHA decided to help and is asking for donations in the form of new or gently used bikes, or cash to purchase new bikes for students at Peabody Elementary School.

“We felt like there was a need that we could fill and we wanted to be inspiration to these young kids. Whether we like it or not, we are role models and we want to show them that we lead by example,” said Armando Garza, President of the Dallas Hispanic Firefighter’s Association.

Currently, their goal is donate a minimum of 30 bikes.

They are accepting donations via PayPal, checks may be sent to PO Box 225037 Dallas, TX 75222.

*Just note that it is for the bike fundraiser on the check.
