DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - The Dallas ISD has big changes in mind for a few of its elementary schools, and the gifted and talented students would reap the benefits.
The district votes tonight on whether to transform Mills Elementary and the Mark Twain Vanguard School into magnet schools. These would serve an estimated 1,800 gifted and talented students across Dallas ISD, none of whom currently attend a gifted and talented campus.
The proposed plan would have Mark Twain Vanguard serving 1st through 5th grade students. Mills Elementary would take students from 1st through 8th grade.
There are also talks about turning Tom Field Elementary into the Dallas ISD's first Career Tech campus, meant for high school students.
District leaders meet at 6:00 p.m. Thursday to discuss and vote at the Dallas County Schools Technology and Training Center.
