DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - A Dallas man accused of causing a fake Amber Alert over the weekend may face charges for his actions.Dallas police say they are working with the District Attorney's office on possible charges a father might face after accusations he made up the story about his son being kidnapped.

Police say 4-year-old Fermin Fuentes was reported kidnapped Sunday when his father told them he was in the backseat of a car that was stolen in southeast Dallas, but police say the child was actually with his mother the whole time and never in the car.

Former Garland police officer Joe Harn says police get lied to all the time, but when it involves a child its incredibly frustrating, considering the amount of resources and manpower used in search efforts.

The Texas Department of Public Safety cancelled it about four hours after it was issued.

There is no word on what type of charges the father may face.
