DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - New court documents say it was Facebook that contacted police and led to the arrest of the so-called "girl in the closet" last month.
Lauren Kavenaugh, who as a child was locked in a closet for six years, raped and tortured, remains locked up on $10,000 bond for the sexual assault of a child.
The just-released arrest warrant says police learned about the case after Facebook reported a Messenger chat to the Internet Crimes against Children Task force.
The documents say investigators think Kavanaugh began her relationship with the child through social media contact, which later led to Kavanaugh moving in with the girl's family at the Budget Suites of America in Lewisville. There, the records say, Kavanaugh and the young girl had sexual contact on at least one occasion.
The warrant says when confronted, Kavanaugh admitted to what she did, before saying she was done talking and if police were going to arrest her, to do it. They did.
The case has not been heard by a grand jury yet.
