IRVING (1080 KRLD) - Irving police are investigating a dog attack that has left a 16 year old male dead.
At 4:45 a.m. Saturday morning officers responded to a report of a possible dog attack in the 800 block of E. Third Street.
Once on the scene they discovered three dogs attacking the teen in the backyard of a home.
Officers jumped a fence to place themselves between the victim and the dogs in an effort to stop the attack, only to have the dogs attack them.
They fired their service weapons at the dogs, wounding one and ultimately capturing all three and taking them to Irving Animal Shelter.
The unidentified 16 year old Hispanic male was taken to Parkland where he later died.
The injured officer was treated and released.
The dogs were secure in their own backyard and the 16 year old did not live at the residence.
