SHERMAN (1080 KRLD) - Howard Gregg Diamond of Sherman was initially facing life in federal prison, but was granted a plea deal yesterday.
Investigators claim his unnecessary prescriptions made him complicit in several deaths.
Diamond pleaded guilty last October to charges that included health care fraud, aiding and abetting, and conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute controlled substances.
Investigators say starting in 2010, Diamond wrote unnecessary prescriptions for highly addictive drugs like hydrocodone, morphine and fentanyl.
Investigators say Diamond's prescriptions led to seven overdose deaths across Texas and Oklahoma. Diamond has admitted his responsibility in one of those deaths.
