RICHARDSON (1080 KRLD) - A federal court in Sherman found former Richardson mayor Laura Maczka guilty of conspiracy to commit bribery and wire fraud charges Thursday.
After two days of deliberations, the jury convicted Maczka and her husband Mark Jordan of the charges. Both were on trial over an apartment complex near US 75.
The 30-page indictment said Maczka accepted money, trips and a job she wasn't qualified for in exchange for helping shepherd the Palisades Property through the approval process.
Maczka ran as a mayoral candidate opposing new apartments but abruptly changed her mind after getting the extra benefits and a new husband.
In fact, a large part of the defense was Maczka and Jordan were in the middle of a sloppy love affair, and that both eventually left spouses and married. The sentencing date has not been set.
