DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - The government shutdown continues, but your taxes are still due April 15th.
The official start to tax season 2019 begins on January 28th, the first day you can file. The Dallas Community Tax Centers (DCTC), a program of the Foundation Communities (a non-profit organization) is offering free tax preparation to individuals and families earning $58,000 or less.
There are 8 site locations in Dallas county, one in Plano and two in Arlington. Taxes are prepared by IRS-certified professionals.
In addition, in light of the government shutdown, furloughed Federal employees and their household are welcome to utilize DCTC tax services regardless of income requirements and received no cost tax preparation services this year.
"We know anecdotally that getting your taxes prepared can cost anywhere from $50-$800. We also that, especially in this climate, $50-$800 can go a long way for a family," said Amanda Arizola, Assistant Director of DCTC.
The Dallas Community Tax Centers also offers tax education so that clients understand what the numbers in each box mean and what they are paying for. Arizola says the tax education is very helpful to first-time taxpayers or those who just want to learn more about the process. Arizola also says its important to get your taxes prepared by people you can trust who are aware of new tax laws that could affect your returns.
All services at the Dallas Community Tax Centers are of no cost to the community. Dallas Community Tax Centers is a non-profit organization sponsored by the IRS, City of Dallas, United Way of Metropolitan Dallas and several local foundations.
DCTC is offering the following services:
- 2019 Tax preparation
- Self-employement taxes (schedule C's)-1099 employees
- ITIN renewal and new application assistance
- Prior year tax preparation
