DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - The government shutdown is affecting some transit systems in North Texas.

Trinity Metro had to delay the opening of TEXRail while they waited for final clearance from the federal railroad administration. Now, TEXRail is running in Tarrant County, but Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) officials say they're now having to use local money for maintenance that would normally come from the federal government.

DART says the shutdown won't affect whether trains and buses run on time.

The agency only uses local money for operations, but it's waiting to be reimbursed nearly $5.6 million from the federal government. DART says that has cost the agency more than $12,000 in interest.
