He says the democrats may have taken the upper Midwest for granted in 2016 and says with this move the party is symbolically re-investing in the region. He also says where they hold the convention has a small and weak relationship to winning that state. "It's symbolic, as a way to show they care about voters in a particular place and the Democratic party needs to show they care more about these Midwestern states that a lot of people they took for granted in 2016."
He says picking Houston would have been the party's way of showing they intend to fight for Texas, and that investing resources in the state would have been a good starting point.
