HOUSTON (1080 KRLD) - Houston ISD police say they found a gun and drugs inside 18-year-old Richard Duran's backpack at Austin High school.
Duran faces charges for taking the gun inside the school. No charges have been filed yet relating to the drugs.
The Houston school district put out a statement: Wednesday morning, a gun and drugs were found in a student's backpack at Austin High School. No students were harmed, and we immediately notified the HISD Police Department. The weapon and drugs have been confiscated. We take these situations very seriously, as the safety of our students and staff is always our absolute top priority.
