IRVING (1080 KRLD) - A first-of-its-kind mental health response team has been created by the Irving police department.
Three specially trained officers and a mental health professional will now be responsible for responding to mental health distress calls. They'll also follow up any of those calls and be there to support other officers.
Irving police say they saw a need for a response team given the importance of mental health and the rise in related distress calls.
Police will release more information about their new response team later today.
