DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - A judge this morning canceled a hearing about separate trials for a Richardson couple accused in the death of their daughter.
Sini Mathews faces a child abandonment charge. Husband Wesley Mathews is accused of capital murder, tempering with evidence, injury to a child and child abandonment.
Last year, prosecutors filed a motion to try the couple tried together fo the October 2017 death of 3-year old Sherin Mathews.
Mrs. Mathews' lawyers filed papers for a separate trial. Judge Amber Givens-Davis told the court today's hearing would not take place and that she was not going to sign any orders today. The judge added she had signed a gag order in the case, limiting what attorneys could discuss.
However, there are clues in public documents. KRLD legal analyst Ed Klein notes in November the judge gave Wesley one trial date and just last week gave Sini a different one
The judge may take up the issue of whether or not the cases are going to be tried together or tried separately. You can assume that because there are separate trial dates that they are going to be tried separately.
The body of the child was found in a culvert about two weeks after she was reported missing.
Police say the couple has given changing stories about what happened. Both remain in jail
