MCKINNEY (1080 KRLD) - A verdict has been reached in a Collin County capital murder trial.

A man from Mesquite went from 'presumed innocent' to 'life in prison without parole' in just 35-minutes today.

Brandon Davis was convicted of capital murder in the February 2017 shooting death of Ahmed Omar.

The owner of the Sav More Foods on south Buckner was followed from the store to his home in Plano. There he was robbed and shot to death.

"That's one of the things that makes this so henious." said Greg Willis, Collin County District Attorney. "These guys planned this out. The carried it out."

Omar was well known and well liked, according to Willis. He says the evidence was solid and is not surprised the jury was able to reach to verdict so quickly.

Two others were arrested in Mesquite along with Davis and are awaiting capital murder trials.
