Instead of featuring a celebrity in a Super Bowl ad this year, KIA Motors decided to invest in the young people of America.

The automaker plans to award more than $1 million through its recently-announced "The Great Unknowns Scholarship Fund."  The goal is to discover and reward young Americans who embody the spirit of "give it everything."  KIA Motors America spokesman James Bell said, "The fund is looking to reward students who are 'great unknowns.'  They're out there just doing the right thing in their communities on a day-to-day basis.  Not doing it for fame or fortune, but because it's the right thing to do."

The deadline for students to apply is March 13, and the scholarship recipients will be announced in May.

KIA Motors has not determined how many students will share in the $1 million scholarship fund.  Bell said, "We're looking to spread that million dollars as far and as wide as best.  We just want the best people, and we're looking to find as many of those 'best people' as possible."
