KELLER (1080 KRLD) - Neighbors say lightning started a house fire Wednesday morning as thunderstorms pushed through the area.

The fire started about 4:40 a.m. in the neighborhood near Hidden Lakes Elementary School.

People who live in the neighborhood say they woke up to the sound of "a big, huge clap" of thunder.

"Honestly, I don't know how to describe it," one woman who lives behind the house that caught fire said.

"It was very loud, just a huge bang," her husband said.

All three people inside the house escaped, but firefighters did make a mayday call. Keller Fire Rescue says the firefighters were rescued and no one was injured.

"I'm glad it's over. I'm glad no one's hurt, relieved," says Deputy Fire Chief Shane Gainer.

A dozen departments responded after the mayday call from Bedford, Colleyville, Euless, Fort Worth, Grapevine, Haltom City, Hurst, Keller, North Richland Hills, Southlake, Trophy Club and Westlake.

"When we have a mayday call out, that's an automatic second alarm for us," Gainer says.

Gainer says investigators will still need to confirm that lightning caused the fire.

"There was a huge lightning storm at that time," he says. "Right now, that potentially looks like the cause."
