DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - Residents say trying to find a new place isn't as easy as they'd hope. Many complexes in the area simply don't have the room to house the some 500 plus displaced by the collapse.

Craig Carter, founder of Jack Mason Brand watches in Deep Ellum, immediately started reaching out to businesses and community members in an effort to gather items to give to those who were left with nothing.

"We've had an overwhelming number of people come by and drop off clothes, bedding, kitchen appliances and furniture. Its been remarkable to see the community come together," Carter says.

He says the stories have sometimes been overwhelming.

"One man has cancer and lost his car when the parking garage collapsed. So we gave him a bunch of Uber gift cards to drive to his chemo treatments."

The crane itself still remains lodged in the side of the Elan Lights apartments.

The removal process will likely begin sometime this weekend and take around two days.
