FORT WORTH (1080 KRLD) -  American Airlines plans to apply for about $12-Billion in aid from the federal Coronavirus bail-out plan.

American is also offering partially-paid leaves for some workers and early retirement buyouts for others in an effort to control payroll costs.

Southwest Airlines has not announced its plans.

The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act offers 58-Billion in aid to airlines.

About half of that is in loans and the other half is in the form of payroll grants.
