American Airlines Touts Deep Cleaning Of Planes Hoping To Regain Passenger Confidence

FORT WORTH (1080 KRLD) - The airlines are going through their worst period since the business downturns after September 11, 2001 and American, among others, is hoping to regain passengers' confidence by sharply ramping up efforts to disinfect the jets before every flight.

Passenger loads are down 90 to 95 percent from last year, and the airlines know people are worried about the Coronavirus.

So, American's Martha Gonzalez tells NBC 5 each plane gets enhanced cleaning upon arrival with extras focus on what she calls "high touch point areas."

Some passengers, though, have been upset to see flights so full that it's impossible to maintain recommended social distancing.

And, while passengers are now required to wear masks, social media pictures still show some people flouting the the requirement
