Setting a new budget for fiscal 2021, the Arlington City Council is calling for a property tax hike amounting to about an additional $34 a year for an average home.

The budget also increases garbage rates by 20 cents per month, per household, and water rates by 25 cents.

The increases were based on projections that sales tax revenue would be off 9% in the upcoming year because of economic losses blamed on the Coronavirus.

Arlington Mayor Jeff Williams says he's looking forward to better days ahead once the pandemic is contained.
