The Austin area needs more medical staff to help with the large number of COVID-19 patients.
With Austin's Coronavirus numbers starting to show improvement, Austins convention center remains on standby as a COVID-19 field hospital, but staffing concerns still plague the major hospital systems.
Austin Travis County Health Authority Dr. Mark Escott says hospitals throughout the area are dealing with staff absenteeism due to the Coronavirus.
Now hospitals and local officials are seeking state and federal support to find additional doctors, nurses and other staff to care for COVID patients in the hospital before staffing the convention center field hospital.
Dr. Escott says he believes the funds are available but finding the people is the trick.
Because the large outbreak in southern Texas is so great, he says they will have to recruit medical personnel from outside the state.
