FORT WORTH (1080 KRLD) - If you were visiting the Fort Worth Water Garden back on July 15th, Animal Control might want you to give them a call.

"A bat was found in the water at the Fort Worth Water Gardens," says Richard Hill, spokesman for Tarrant County Public Health. "That bat later did test positive for rabies."

Hill says rabies exposure only occurs when someone is either bitten or scratched by a potentially rabid animal.

If you do encounter a bat, there is one thing you will ever want to do.

"Never handle a bat, whether it's alive or dead, with your bare hands," says Hill. "Just don't touch it."

If you came into contact with the rabid bat, call Fort Worth Animal Control at 817-392-1234.
