BEDFORD (1080 KRLD) - The Mayor of Bedford will step down later this year to run for another political office.

Mayor Jim Griffin intends to run for State Representative in District 92. That district covers Bedford, Hurst, Euless and parts of Fort Worth, Arlington and Grand Prairie.

Griffin served on the Bedford City Council from 2000 to 2006, then again from 2010 to 2012. He was elected Mayor in 2012 and re-elected in 2015 and 2018. He plans to continue to serve in that position until the city holds a special election to choose a new Mayor on November 5th.

Republican Jonathan Stickland currently represents District 92 in the Texas House. He announced earlier this year that he did not intend to run for re-election.
