PLANO (1080 KRLD) -  The Plano-based Cinemark movie theater chain has announced drastic cuts blamed on the Coronavirus shut-downs.

All Cinemark theaters have been closed for nearly a month.

Yesterday, in a filing with regulators, the company announced it will lay off more than 17,000 hourly workers.

Also, it is furloughing half of the company's corporate employees at 20 percent pay and cutting the pay of everyone else by half.

Cinemark runs more than 500 theaters in 42 states and 15 other countries.
