FORT WORTH (1080 KRLD) - The city of Fort Worth will start furloughing some employees later this month because of the ongoing pandemic.

According to the Star-Telegram, the City of Fort Worth will furlough 79 employees at the Will Rogers Memorial Center and the Fort Worth Convention Center on May 16th.

It comes as the city's travel and tourism revenue has taken a huge hit, with the coronavirus grinding travel to an almost complete stop, hotel occupancy is at or below ten-percent.

The furloughed employees will still keep their health benefits while they're off the job, which will be until at least July 1st.

While the city must still find tens of millions of dollars in savings in the general fund as well, it does not expect additional furloughs.
