DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - The Collin County Commissioners Court has passed a resolution reaffirming Commissioners' support for the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. The County Judge says the resolution is a response to proposals by some politicians that could affect gun ownership.

During his campaign for the Democratic Party's presidential nomination, former Texas Congressman Beto O'Rourke proposed a mandatory buy-back program for some weapons, including AK-47's and AR-15's.

"Liberal politicians like Mr. O'Rourke have declared that they want to take and confiscate firearms from lawful citizens," Collin County Judge Chris Hill said. "He has said by executive order he will...if he were to be elected president...he would just decide to take your liberty, to take my liberty."

O'Rourke ended his campaign for the Democratic Party's Presidential nomination on November 1st.

Some Collin County residents urged Commissioners to reconsider the resolution. "Your resolution should be supporting responsible firearms storage, extreme risk protection orders, and expanding background checks," said Joe Lasburg. "Anything else is endangering public health."

Commissioners said the resolution was related to gun violence but instead about supporting the right to keep and bear arms. "Everybody should be willing to sign on to something like this that affirms and upholds the U.S. and Texas Constitution, " said Commissioner Darrell Hale. "Everyone should be willing to sign on just like our Founding Fathers did and the founders of our State of Texas."

The resolution reaffirming Commissioners' "support for the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution" passed unanimously.

The resolution does not declare Collin County a "Second Amendment Sanctuary", which some other counties in Texas have done
