Dallas County Jail Inmate Tests Positive For COVID-19

DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - The Dallas County Sheriff's Department says an inmate has tested positive for coronavirus.

The department says it is gathering more information, but the person is not currently housed in the Dallas County Jail.

This is the first inmate at the Dallas County jail to test positive. 

The public information officer for the sheriff's department says he is working to find out if anyone else may have had contact with with the inmate, but he could not say how the inmate may have contracted the virus or if any other inmates or staff members were in isolation or quarantine.

The department has not released the inmate's current condition.

Through Wednesday morning, Dallas County had confirmed a total of 169 cases of coronavirus. Five people have died.
