DALLAS (1080 KRLD)- Dallas County is reporting 20 new deaths from COVID-19. That's the largest single-day death total reported by the County since the start of the pandemic.
The County is also reporting 601 new COVID-19 cases, which is also a new single-day record.
Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins is troubled by the increases and by the rising hospitalization rate. He's urging Governor Greg Abbott to adopt new state-wide orders to help slow the spread of the virus, starting with a state-wide requirement for people to wear face masks while out in public.
"We should pause all the businesses where you can't wear your face mask 100 percent of the time," Judge Jenkins told KRLD. "Things like spin class, cigar bars, in-restaurant dining...but not patio, take out or delivery. If we do that we've got a chance of getting a hold of the surge. If we keep waiting around to do things at the state level then were going to have to do more draconian things in the future just to get to where we could be if we act now."
