DALLAS (KRLD) - Dallas police are hoping a new online system will make it easier for citizens to report non-emergency crimes.
The department is hoping it will free up officers and reduce the amount of time spent on writing reports.
Not all crimes can be reported on the new website. They can only be used for non-violent crimes including burglary, identity theft and criminal mischief.
Assistant chief Angela Shaw says this was a program pushed by police chief Renee Hall.
"She wanted ways for the department to be more efficient and have ways for our officers to respond to higher priority calls. It can free them for practical and community policing," Shaw says.
A Spanish version of the site is also expected to launch later this year.
The new portal can be found at: dallaspolice.net
