DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - Street Racing. Police say it’s a dangerous problem in Dallas.

Last night alone, three different instances of street racing were reported in the city and had to be shut down. One incident happened in the parking lot of a CVS Pharmacy at the intersection of Cole Avenue and Lemmon Avenue. Police say racers there were blocking the intersection, shooting off fireworks, and doing donuts.

"It is a danger to the other motorists and pedestrians that are in and around the area," said Lt. Brian Sherman with the Dallas County Sheriff’s office. "And it could absolutely be a danger to those involved."

Police and city council members have been speaking about these street racing gatherings for months. With the pandemic, streets have been less congested, but Sherman says he doesn't know if that's helped the problem ... or made it worse.

Police say all sightings of street racers should be reported to 911 immediately.
