Police: 2 Children Abducted In Dallas After Mother Found Dead Are Safe, Suspect In Custody

Amber Alert - Feb 10, 2020

DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - The two kids who prompted an Amber Alert Monday morning in Dallas have been found safe.

Dallas Police were called to a "welfare check" at an apartment complex on Ferguson Road in East Dallas about 8 p.m. Sunday. When they arrived, they found a woman dead inside and her two kids were missing.

Police identified the woman found dead as Latiffiney Rodgers, 26.

Dallas police asked DPS to issue an Amber Alert for the kids, Julien Rodgers, 1, and Jorden Rodgers, 7. They said the two were likely to be with their father and could be in "grave or immediate danger."

Police say their investigation led them to another apartment near Loop 12 and Abrams Road. SWAT responded, and they found the suspect, Johnnie Palmore, 33, had shot himself in a bedroom.

The two children were found unharmed. Police say an adult woman and another child were also inside the apartment.

"We are so grateful. We are so grateful no one else was injured during this incident," says Sergeant Warren Mitchell. "It could have come out a lot worse."

Palmore was taken to the hospital where he died. The two children will be taken to the Dallas Children's Advocacy Center.

"They're very young, so I'm sure it's going to be traumatic to them," Mitchell says. "But it's hard to tell because they didn't express they knew what was going on. Their eyes were just wide open and looking around."

In the Amber Alert, Palmore was listed as the kids' father, but Mitchell says he could not confirm the relationship Monday morning.
