The Dallas Diocese of the Roman Catholic Church is going to deviate from the school opening rules mandated by Dallas County.

While County Commissioners demand in-class learning can begin no sooner than September 8th, the Diocese has announced it would begin on-campus classes on September 2nd, the Wednesday before the Labor Day weekend.

The timing of the holiday is one factor in the decision.

Matt Vereecke the Superintendent of Catholic Schools for the Diocese of Dallas first sent out a letter to parents saying the elementary schools would open September 2nd.

Now, he's clarified that also applies to the Diocese high schools.

Furthermore, Vereecke says the September 2nd date was chosen because it is before the holiday, giving parents an incentive not to plan any holiday travel which might expose students to the Coronvirues.
