With the Dallas tornado, Hanna says, "you're seeing a lot higher-end homes that were destroyed in this storm. Another big, big reason is the commercial property that was destroyed in this storm. You have schools, a Home Depot, a huge warehouse...you've got a number of restaurants and shopping malls."

Insurance companies have received about 8,300 home-owner claims so far and about 6,000 automobile claims. Hanna says both of those numbers are expected to double.

For those people dealing with storm damage, Hanna says, "document your damage. Look inside, look outside - take photos and video. Make some temporary repairs so you don't have more damage. Keep your receipts and call your insurance agent to get your claim reported as soon as possible, because you won't be alone."
