Dallas Area Rapid Transit is on track to finish installing personal protective shields on all of its buses by the end of the month.

The  respiratory droplet shields are made of Plexiglass and separate the bus driver from the passengers. They're designed to block the droplets that can spread the novel coronavirus.

DART began installing the barriers in the middle of March as part of their overall effort to limit the spread of COVID-19. So far, they're been installed on 511 buses. DART has more than 600 buses in its fleet.

Officials with the transit agency say crews should have the barriers installed on all of the buses before July 1st.

DART is also continuing its enhanced cleaning procedures.
