The Denton Fire Department says crews responded to several high water rescues Tuesday evening as heavy rain moved through the area.
Denton Enterprise Airport received about five inches of rain from noon Tuesday through 9 a.m. Wednesday.
Denton police closed several roads and intersections with high water. University Drive was closed at Interstate 35 for about four hours Wednesday night. Still, people who live near the University of North Texas were posting pictures of cars trying to drive through the water. One man said his house was not flooded, but he heard sirens from fire trucks overnight.
"I could see that happening if people were trying to drive through something they shouldn't have," one man who lives near UNT said. "Personally, I'm not a big an of that unless you've got a super big truck with a snorkel on it.'
Another who works overnight says he had to take a different route home, and he saw other cars stuck in water. He says a friend had to push her car out of water when it stalled.
