A new contact tracing program available online aims to give Denton ISD parents a better idea of how many new COVID-19 cases are at local schools.

Denton ISD school board members were told by Denton County Health Director Matt Richardson that the contact tracing program is meant to provide transparency, as well give up to the date information on new coronavirus cases at each of the schools in the system.

County health officials put together a voluntary virus reporting tool that school nurses and attendance clerks can turn in remotely each day.

That information, divided by the total in-person enrolment, will let health officials know basic absenteeism at all participating campuses.

Starting next week, Texas education officials will require all school districts to fill out forms on new COVID-19 cases weekly. They'll have to include whether the infections occurred on or off campus and if the campus closed.

School districts that began the school year before September 8th must also report all prior positive cases for this year.
