DENTON (1080 KRLD) - Two people are in custody and a Denton police officer remains in critical condition after he was shot early Tuesday morning, police said at a press conference.
The officer has been identified as Urbano Rodriguez Jr., a five-year veteran of the Denton Police Department. He remains in critical condition at Medical City Denton after undergoing surgery for gunshot wounds he suffered to the head and femur.
"I would say that after his surgery the prognosis for his recovery, while he is still in critical condition, is favorable," Denton Police Chief Frank Dixon said.

— Denton Police Dept (@DENTONPD) October 29, 2019Police identified the suspects in the shooting as 44-year-old Michele Stacey and Antwon Pinkston, 33.
Rodriguez was shot when he tried to stop a car on University Drive, near Malone Street, just after midnight. Denton police say the officer pulled over Stacey over for an equipment violation when Pinkson pulled a gun and shot Rodriguez twice.
Chief Dixon said another Denton officer, Randy Cole, had arrived on the scene and fired at the suspects, striking both of them in their arms. The suspects fled and were later apprehended by Carrollton and Farmers Branch Police Departments.
They were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to the Denton County Jail after they were medically cleared.
Pinkson has been charged with the attempted capital murder of a peace officer. His bond has been set at $5 million. Stacey is being held on a parole violation but could face additional charges, Chief Dixon said.
