RICHARDSON (1080 KRLD) - In DFW, some restaurants are preparing to open up again on Friday. Others want to serve the community ... in a different way.
Zaid Bayan, co-founder and managing director of Sara's Market & Bakery in Richardson and Ram Mehta, co-owner of In-Fretta restaurants in Plano and Irving, are teaming up to give food away for free.
The duo is planning to give out 5,000 meals and 5,000 protective face masks from 12 - 3 p.m. on Friday, in an event they're calling #Everyone Eats.
"It's all about passion," said Bayan. "A passion for creating an amazing food experience with Sara's, and a passion for giving back to the community who has embraced us and helped us continue to grow."
WellHealth will be on-site conducting free COVID-19 tests from 12 - 1 p.m. during the giveaway. They'll be offering free consultations for anyone feeling sick.
Bayan says none of the restaurants involved in the event felt like it was safe to open their dining rooms yet, so they're planning to stay closed for now. Still, he said they wanted to serve the community.
"If we all stick together, we'll all pull through this," Bayan said.
The event will kick off Friday at Sara's Market and Bakery at 750 S. Sherman Street in Richardson.
