DALLAS (KRLD) - As the heat wave continues, the operator of the region's power grid is asking customers to conserve electricity and help ease record demand.
On Tuesday afternoon, ERCOT issued a Level One Emergency Electricity Alert. ERCOT President and CEO Bill Magness said, "High temperatures have resulted in record electricity demand over the last few days and may result in a new record today. Consumers can help lower energy consumption by taking some simple actions between the hours of 3-7 p.m."
According to ERCOT, no rolling blackouts have been reported.
Suggested steps to help reduce electricity use:
--Turn thermostats up by 2-3 degrees during the peak usage hours of 3-7 p.m.
--Use fans to feel 4-6 degrees cooler.
--Limit use of major appliances to morning hours, or after 7 p.m.
--Close blinds and drapes during late afternoon and early evening hours.
--Schedule pool pumps to run in the early morning or overnight hours, and turn pumps off between 4-6 p.m.
ERCOT said the all-time record for peak electric demand was broken twice Monday afternoon. Another record was expected on Tuesday.
