DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - A federal judge has backed Dallas County Sheriff Marian Brown's request to keep inmates at the Lew Sterrett jail complex locked up in spite of their expressed fears over the Coronavirus.
A lawyer for one of the inmates claims the judge was aware of what the lawyer calls "the human suffering" inside the county jail but ruled against the inmates anyway.
In court documents, the inmates claim they have little access to things like face masks or even soap to wash their hands. They also say they are unable to distance themselves.
Dallas County says more than 150 inmates have tested positive for Coronavirus up through yesterday. That's out of a jail population of nearly 5,000.
