AMARILLO (1080 KRLD) - A federal strike team is in Amarillo, the county seat for Potter County which has a Coronavirus infection rate nearly four times that of Dallas and Harris Counties.
The panhandle of Texas is home to some of the biggest meat-packing plants in the nation.
Amarillo Mayor Ginger Nelson says the team of federal experts was called in to help attack outbreaks in the area's packing plants and take over testing and investigations of people who are coming down with the Coronavirus.
The latest state figures show that more than 680 people in Potter County have tested positive. That makes an infection rate of 5.66 per one thousand residents, between three and four times higher than Harris and Dallas counties.
But in Moore County (just to the North) the rate is 16.65 per one thousand.
