A former youth pastor has been charged with federal crimes in connection with a string of incidents in the late 1990's and early 2000's.
50-year-old Robert Shiflet was arrested at his home in Denton earlier this month and arraigned by video-conference in Little Rock, Arkansas this week.
Shiflet is charged with three counts of transporting a minor across state lines to engage in illegal sexual activity and one count of coercing a minor to cross a state line to engage in illegal sexual activity.
Prosecutors say he took kids from Texas to Arkansas for sexual activity between 1997 and 2002. He was a youth pastor in Arkansas a that time and had previously been a youth pastor at a church in Denton.
If Shiflet is convicted he could face a maximum of 15 years in prison for the most serious charges.
