FORT WORTH (1080 KRLD) - The Fort Worth Convention Center is getting decontaminated, and soon officials say it’ll be back hosting events.

The center transformed into an emergency homeless shelter months ago, as cities across DFW issued shelter-in-place orders. Now, remnants of the shelter have been removed and staff are looking ahead.

Michael Crum is Fort Worth’s Public Events Director. He says top notch sanitation crews have been hired to decontaminate the building.

"We're going the extra mile, if you will, to make sure that the building is ready for business again when circumstances permit," Crum says.

The decontamination process could take several weeks. After that, Crum says the convention center will be deep cleaned once again.

The venue is scheduled to hold an event on July 15th. It'll be the  center's first since March.
