AUSTIN (KRLD) - Governor Abbott’s week-long economic development tour through Asia took him to Tokyo Japan on Thursday.
The day kicked off with a meeting with the chairman of the world’s 5th largest bank.
Abbott and Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group CEO Nobuyuki Hirano discussed potential opportunities for future growth, the low tax environment in Texas and steel and aluminum tariffs. Mitsubishi has a long history investing in Texas dating back to 1961.
After that Abbott attended a reception with business and government representatives at the Residence of Acting U.S. Ambassador Joseph Young.
Abbott’s currently leading local business leaders on a tour of both Japan and South Korea.
