GRAND PRAIRIE (1080 KRLD)- Wednesday's Grand Prairie industrial fire is still smoldering and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality is continually checking air quality in the area around Poly America gutted by the fire that broke out early morning.
While early estimates predicted the flames might burn through today, firefighters actually had it under control by Wednesday afternoon.
Nevertheless, the site still has hot spots. For hours, the fire pumped out inky black smoke heavy with chemicals used in the plastics produced by Poly America.
Those fumes worried the neighborhood around the plant but TCEQ was monitoring conditions through the day and will continue to do so Thursday.
