DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - HEB/Central Market will serve lunch to people who live and work in Preston Hollow for the next three days. The company has set up a mobile kitchen outside the Central Market store at Preston and Royal.
"It's a little scary, especially when you know you have good friends and even some co-workers who've lost everything; no home, no nothing and having to start from scratch. says Donetta Wallace, who has worked at the store about two years.
"It's good to reconnect with our customers, particularly those who just live right behind our store," says HEB/Central Market's Mabrie Jackon. "Everybody has really wrapped their arms around everybody to say we're in this together, and we're going to make this work."
HEB/Central Market has three mobile kitchens. Each can serve up to 5,000 meals an hour when responding to a disaster.
"I'm at this shopping center at least once a day. I've always shopped at Central Market and all these places, so it's heartbreaking. But I know we're strong, and it'll get rebuilt," one woman said as she ate lunch.
HEB/Central Market will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner through Saturday.
The truck in front of the store at Preston and Royal will serve breakfast from 8-10 a.m., lunch from noon-2 p.m. and dinner from 4-6 p.m.
Central Market will also provide cleaning supply kits to up to 500 homeowners starting Thursday.
After they stop serving meals, Central Market will continue handing out produce, snacks and water in front of its store at Preston and Royal Sunday through Tuesday, October 29.
