MCKINNEY (1080 KRLD) - The group working to have a McKinney City Council member removed from office will hands over it's petition to City Hall today.
The group has been collecting signatures calling for the removal of La’Shadion Shemwell from office.
2,100 valid signatures are needed from McKinney voters to force a recall election.
Critics say Shemwell has been fanning racial tension in the city.
Shemwell was elected in 2017 and is only the second black person to serve on the McKinney city council. The recall effort began in November and if enough signatures are verified, a recall election could happen in May.
Shemwell says efforts to remove him from office are racially motivated.
